So in the end I’ve ordered EZFlash Vi, which has upgrade capabilities and works with 1.4 firmware. I paid for the order 3 weeks ago, and it’s almost here; I expect it to arrive this week. I paid $14 for it.

Only to realise that R4i can be upgraded too.
