The first thought that came into my mind when I watched the opening video sequence: Higurashiki no Naku Koro ni. It’s not the same, however it does feel similar. At least the atmosphere feels the same. The soundtrack delivers some chills to your spine, as well.

Megumi, seen smiling above, is a normal 15 years old girl, who is, however, unusually trendy and fashionable for her village, Sotoba. She hates the place she was born in, the villagers annoy her to no end with their chatter and rumours, her friends are “plain” and “boring”, and she wants to leave the countryside and move to a big city.

However, even in this small village in the middle of nowhere there are two points of interest for Megumi – one being a newly built western-style mansion up in the mountains, and the other is the subject of her one-sided crush. Yuuki Natsuno moved to Sotoba with his family just a while ago; he used to live in a big city until his parents decided to change the environment. He doesn’t like Megumi probably due to her stalking him, and ignores her most of the time.

One day, the new inhabitants of the mansion arrive in Sotoba in the dark of the night, and that’s where a chain of mystical events starts to unveil…

Yes.

Another 1/7 scale Fate figure by ALTER.

This time it’s PHANTOM MINDS version, from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha THE MOVIE 1st.

I’m not going to describe the whole awesomeness of this, you can pretty much see for yourself. A must get, obviously. It’s freaking ALTER, do I even need to say anything more.

Nominating this series for the “probably the best soundtrack in the season yet” award. The background music really fits the events, and the opening theme is pretty nice, too. The ending song is fine, I guess, with the exception of lyrics. Animation quality is overall decent, if not better than that.

The story follows a 12 years old boy, Rikuo, who is ¼ youkai, ¾ human. His grandfather was the leader (the Second Heir) of the local youkai, known as the Lord of the Pandemonium, or Nuraruhyon. Of course, that said grandfather wants Rikuo to inherit the position as the Third Heir, but the boy just doesn’t want that as he is fine with his “normal human life”. He has some friends and a girl whom he likes (Kana; she’s pretty cute, too).

However, he already awakened once as Rikuo of the night, and challenged the acting Third Heir, Gyuki, emerging victorious in that fight; although he has no memories whatsoever about that night four years ago. Therefore, all youkai serve him (apparently including Gyuki), and there are also two of them who are more than dedicated in their service, always watching out for their master.

School Apocalypse: High School of the Dead. This might be the most overhyped series of the season; however, so far it’s the most dynamic/action-packed one.

I’m not really sure how should I describe it. When I saw the opening video sequence, I thought it’d be mostly fanservice-class series; looks like it’s not exactly true. The first episode of the actual show didn’t really feature much fanservice besides those watermelons, if you catch my drift.

Komuro Takashi, 17 years old, is our “main” character. He has a crush on his childhood friend, Miyamoto Rei, who, in turn, has a boyfriend, Hisashi, who is… our Takashi’s best friend. Everything begins on a pretty nice day. Takashi is skipping a class and noticed something weird happening at the school gates. He immediately decides to get Rei and escape to a safe place; however, that becomes impossible in just a few minutes as the entire school becomes infested. And that’s when shit hits the fan.

…Since it’s an action series, it’s pretty pointless to try to describe it. It kind of kicks ass. Really.

Enter the Marui triplets, the three mischievous fairies (no, they aren’t actually fairies) of an elementary school near you. Enter Yabe Satoshi, the newbie teacher. Little did he know about what awaited him in his first year of actual work after graduating.The poor guy was in pretty high spirits when he applied for a teacher’s job at the school in question. The staff looked like a bunch of nice people, he was given a warm welcome, and everything seemed overall good. Until he found out that the class he is responsible for has three (just think about it, three!) “super-problem-children”. Mitsuba, Futaba, and Hitoha, the triplets.  Mitsuba has a sadistic personality and is pretty precocious. Futaba is the strongest, and is pretty much a pervert. Hitoha is a quiet, introvertive, and smart girl with a sly, cunning mind.

The triplets mistakingly assume that their teacher, “Yabe-chi”, has fallen in love with the nurse, “Kiriyama-chi”, and decide to help the two get together. Chaos ensues.

Conclusion: if you’re fine with borderline humour and questionable jokes, Mitsudomoe is a great school comedy.

Remember Seitokai no Ichizon? The comedy with a lot of references to other series, about a student council consisting of four girls and a single guy who planned to create an ideal harem with those four?

Here’s what we have in Seitokai Yakuindomo: a student council consisting of three girls and a single guy. The school has been girls only forever, but turned co-ed in the new year, and this unlucky fellow is a new student there. But, unlike Sugisaki, Tsuda Takatoshi has no plans to make a harem out of this “too many girls around” situation. He actually is a meek and pretty honest guy (he seems to be a bit shy, too).

That’s how he ends up dragged (and ordered) around by Amakusa Shino, who considered that now that the school is co-ed, they needed a male student in the council (a politically correct decision, one might say).

Note: the jokes in this series sometimes are very, very questionable.

The first thing that came to my mind 3 or 5 seconds into the show: “What in the hell of blazing fires am I watching? Is this supposed to be a joke?” And no. It’s not a joke.

A summary of the first episode: nothing happens.

We’ve got a weird cast here. Besides the two (promising) girls featured above, there is a bishounen (Leicester Maycraft), a brainless hopeless romantic-type mistress (Carina Veritti), the bishounen’s mother (Shelley Maycraft; the dreaded “MILF” type), a wandering (or not really) puppeteer (Agnes Boulange), a swordswoman who serves some weird religious order (Chelsea Arcot), and a maid of that aforementioned mistress (Nina).

The manzai duo, Ritos (older) and Salsa (younger) sisters, are from the Tortilla family. (An awesome family name you’ve got there.) Ritos seems to be pretty smart, manipulative, and controlling. Besides that, she loves putting her sister in questionable situations, and generally makes fun of her. Salsa is dumb (dumber than Carina); considers herself smart and beautiful, though. Both are cute and seem to have an overall better taste when it comes to clothes, compared to Carina.

At the end of the episode, another character is introduced. Her name is… well, not going to spoil that one.

This show is overflowing with sugar. I think my teeth started to hurt after watching.

Conclusion after episode 1: Boring. Pointlessly spent time. The character designs are nice, though.

Meet Ookami Ryouko, alias Ookami (The Wolf), notorious for her explosive personality, short temper, and unusual canine teeth. She’s also tall, flat as a board, and wears knee-high boots. Is tsundere, and takes it to the extreme. Is voiced by Itou Shizuka (ref.: Katsura Hinagiku of Hayate no Gotoku!! fame). The picture up there was taken when she was pissed off at the narrator.

Meet the narrator, Shirai Kuroko (Arai Satomi). And I mean Shirai Kuroko from To Aru Kagaku no Choudenjihou alright. Because this show is narrated in that certain Kuroko’s voice.

And finally, meet Akai Ringo, the Little Red Riding Hood. Voiced by… Itou Kanae, who also voiced Saten-san. From Railgun. Well, you know Saten’s personality; Ringo is pretty much upbeat too, though she doesn’t attempt skirt lifting (…yet?) and is pretty short. Ryouko and Ringo  are classmates and close friends; they also share the dorm room.

Enter the male protagonist, Morino Ryoushi. His appearances in the first episode make him look like a coward – but I wouldn’t be really sure about that; the guy has a weird problem – he is afraid of people looking at him and starts shivering uncontrollably. Might have something to do with his upbringing. He has a crush. On Ryouko.

And thus begins this tsundere love comedy based on a series of light novels.

I hereby state that once new season actually hits the fan I’ll post reviews for the first episodes. Currently lurking in Share for stuff that should already be out by now.

That will be a plain depiction of the series watched by a certain yandere. Please do not expect much out of it.
